Success Stories

The mission of BC & Alberta Guide Dogs is to meet the growing demand for professionally trained Guide Dogs, Autism Service Dogs and
OSI-PTSD Service Dogs for those in BC & Alberta. Here are just a few of the lives we have changed.

“From day one, Reece & Shay have formed an incredible team. The changes in our daily life are nothing short of miraculous. Shay has brought Reece a newfound sense of independence, allowing him to practice important life skills like holding eye contact and following two-step directions while caring for Shay. Reece’s confidence has grown and our family has gained the security to take him out to try new experiences. Shay is not just a dog; he’s a lifeline, a companion, and a source of hope for Reece and our family.”

“Being a part of BC & Alberta Guide Dogs for so long has been such a pleasure. The four dogs I have received from them have truly changed my life. I want to take this time to thank all the donors, volunteers, trainers, and everyone involved. What they do makes a huge difference to those lucky enough to receive one of these amazing dogs. I am so grateful to everyone involved for the ability to have some independence, autonomy, and companionship.”

“I realized a sense of family and belonging I had not known before as I was divorced from my family early on in my PTSD. Somewhere in it all, we became a tight supportive group at BC & Alberta Guide Dogs’ OSI-PTSD Service Dog Program. It has been my experience that if you stick with the program long enough, you get the dog you need, but you also get the family you need.”
